Run STP.Updater Client Setup
Start the executable file STP.UpdaterClient.Setup.exe.
Click the Next button.
-
Check the box Installation on a Terminal Server to disable the STP.Updater Client after installation on a terminal server.
If needed, uncheck the box Installation on a Terminal Server to install the STP.Updater Client on a workstation and activate the Windows service STP Updater ClientUpdateService.
Then click the Next button.
On a terminal server, no scheduled application updates should occur, as the terminal server must be put into a special operating mode for this. However, since the STP.Updater Client is a prerequisite for other STP client applications, it must be present on the computer before installing the STP client application.
The Windows service STP Updater ClientUpdateService is disabled by checking the box Installation on a Terminal Server.
Note
It is not checked whether the installation is actually on a terminal server.
Additionally, the start of the STP.Updater Client on a terminal server is prevented.
-
Click the Change button to select a different target folder. In the "Change Current Target Folder" window, you can select the desired target folder and create a new folder if needed.

Create shortcut for manual start
A shortcut is created on the Windows desktop, allowing you to manually start the STP.Updater Client.
-
Click the Cancel button to cancel the installation.
Click the Back button to change the client's configuration.
Click the Install button to install the STP.Updater Client.
In the Windows 7 or Vista User Account Control, click the Yes button to continue the installation.
Click the Finish button to complete the installation.
If a winsolvenz.p4 or STP-Documents client was already installed on the workstation before installing the STP.Updater Client, the Windows services STP Clientupdate Service and STP.Updater ClientUpdateService are installed and started after installation.
This is intentional and not a problem. Both services can be started simultaneously as long as they use different ports.
Silent Setup
You can start an unattended installation of the STP.Updater Clients. To do this, copy the files
- cmd
- UpdaterClient.Setup.exe
from the installation directory of the DVD to a directory on the local computer or a shared directory. On all computers where the software is to be installed, .NET Framework 4.8 should already be installed. On Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2003 R2 operating systems, you must be logged in as a local administrator on the workstations.
Open the file SilentSetup.cmd with a text editor like Notepad.
Example for Windows 7 and Windows Vista without the TargetDir parameter
@ECHO OFF
cd "%~dp0"
ECHO The STP.Updater Client is being installed
SET PORT=8017
SET HOSTNAME=\"Please enter the name of the STP.Updater Server here\"
REM SET TARGETDIR=\"C:\Program Files (x86)\STP AG\Administration\Updater Client\"
REM With default target directory
REM "STP.UpdaterClient.Setup.exe" /S "/v/qn /lv*x install.log UPDATERSERVERPORT=%PORT% UPDATERSERVERNAME=%HOSTNAME% REBOOT=SUPPRESS"
REM With specified target directory
"\\MyFileServer\MyShare\STP.UpdaterClient.Setup.exe" /S "/v/qn /lv*x install.log UPDATERSERVERPORT=%PORT% UPDATERSERVERNAME=%HOSTNAME% INSTALLDIR=%TARGETDIR% REBOOT=SUPPRESS"
PAUSE
The batch file and setup are located in the shared directory \\MyFileServer\MyShare\.
UNC paths are not supported for the CD command. Comment out the line cd "%~dp0".
Open the file SilentSetup.cmd with a double-click to perform an unattended installation into the directory D:\Programs\STP AG\Administration\Updater Client\.
Add or change the values for PORT, HOSTNAME, and if needed, also for TARGETDIR.
If the file is in a shared directory on a remote computer, you need to specify a UNC path in the format (\\<ServerName>\<ShareName>) before the lines with "STP.UpdaterClient.Setup.exe".
UNC paths are not supported for the CD command. Comment out the line cd "%~dp0".
-
For the file STP.UpdaterClient.Setup.exe, you can optionally specify an installation directory using the INSTALLDIR parameter.
Comment out the unwanted lines with REM or remove REM from the desired line.
Save the file SilentSetup.cmd.
Run the executable file SilentSetup.cmd from the workstation. On Windows 7, Vista, and Windows Server 2008/2008 R2, run the file with the option "Run as Administrator".
If a value (e.g., the path for TARGETDIR) contains spaces, you must enclose the variable in the string \"<Value>\".
For an unattended installation, the option to automatically start the Updater Client is preset. It cannot be changed later. Therefore, do not perform an unattended installation on a terminal server.
On Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, and Windows XP, a restart of the computer is necessary because the Windows Installer 4.5 is also installed. The setup parameter REBOOT=SUPPRESS prevents the computer from restarting.
During an unattended installation, it may happen that the components listed as installation prerequisites are installed first, and then the computer is restarted. Log back into the workstation, and the setup of the STP.Updater client will continue in the background. After the installation is complete, the Windows service is started, and the STP.Updater Client icon is displayed in the taskbar.
Terminal Server Installation
Open the command prompt (on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 with the option "Run as Administrator").
1. Enter the command
- change user /install - in the command prompt and press [Enter].
2. Start the executable file UpdaterClientSetup.exe from the installation directory of the DVD and follow the installation program instructions.
3. During the installation of the STP.Updater Client, check the box Installation on a Terminal Server.
4. Enter the command
- change user /execute - in the command prompt and press [Enter].
The STP.Updater Client cannot be started on a terminal server. You will receive an appropriate message when starting the application.
On a terminal server, no scheduled updates of applications should occur, as the terminal server must be put into a special operating mode for this. However, since the STP.Updater Client is checked as a prerequisite for further STP client applications, it must be present on the computer before installing the STP client application.
The Windows service STP.Updater ClientUpdateService is disabled by checking the box Installation on a Terminal Server.
Note
It is not checked here whether the installation is actually being performed on a terminal server.
Additionally, regardless of the selected setting of the box Installation on a Terminal Server, the start of the STP.Updater Client on a terminal server is prevented.
