Compatibilities

Please understand that we cannot make general statements about the compatibility of STP Documents and its technologies with other products, as we have no control over the development and deployment of other software products.

The DESK standard is a pure Microsoft .NET Framework application, developed with Microsoft Visual Studio.

Microsoft 365

When using Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online, issues may occasionally arise in the Outlook DESK and Office Integration add-ins, as Microsoft 365 is continuously updated by the manufacturer with new features and security patches. We will continue to test future versions against the current version at the time.

In the meantime, updates to the Microsoft 365 environment may cause malfunctions that need to be analyzed promptly.

The cloud version of Microsoft 365 cannot be used with STP Documents.

Please refer to the current release notes of your version for the last tested Microsoft 365 status/version at the time of our software delivery. Check if there are updates or patches from STP for newer Microsoft 365 versions in the meantime.

To avoid unexpected behavior, we recommend disabling automated updates of Microsoft 365 and testing these updates on a test system first. You can find more information here:

Microsoft Office 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024

Approval for Office 32-bit is only valid with the additional agreement from STP.

For Office in the 32-bit version, it is essential that the compatibility mode is enabled in all Office products. Without using compatibility mode, errors may occur in Outlook DESK and Office Integration. Enable compatibility mode before installing Outlook DESK and Office Integration, as errors may occur at the first start otherwise.

We generally recommend using the 64-bit version of Office if possible. The 32-bit version is known to quickly run into memory issues, leading to errors and crashes.

Office Integration

Office Integration is an add-in for MS Office 2016, 2019, 2021, 2024, and Microsoft 365.

The add-in integrates a search for files and documents from STP Documents, a document list, a document preview, configuration options, and buttons for saving documents directly into STP Documents into the user interface of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. With a 32-bit Office or under a 32-bit operating system, issues may arise, especially with large documents, when converting to PDF format and displaying in the document preview.

In some versions of Microsoft Office, there was an issue with the integration of add-ins and features, where instead of the expected functions, only a blank dialog was displayed. After thoroughly analyzing the problem, we identified the cause and developed a solution to restore the correct display of functions and add-ins in Microsoft Word. A step-by-step guide to solving the problem can be found here.


Outlook DESK

When Outlook DESK is installed and configured, emails stored in STP Documents are marked with a blue dot in Outlook. This only works on the primary Exchange Server. On other connected mail servers (other Exchange servers, gmx, hotmail, etc.), the blue dot to indicate already archived emails cannot be added.

Standard DESK

STP.Common.Services

The server components for the Service Bus can only be used in version 1.5.0 for communication with STP Documents.

STP User Management

STP Documents can be used with STP User Management from version 1.6.512 onwards.

MS SQL Server 2017

The compatibility mode for MS SQL Server 2017 must be manually enabled.

For custom filters (e.g., search profiles, detailed searches, etc.), runtime behavior may change if Microsoft has changed the internal optimization of database queries.

MS SQL Server 2019

The compatibility mode for MS SQL Server 2019 must be manually enabled.

For custom filters (e.g., search profiles, detailed searches, etc.), runtime behavior may change if Microsoft has changed the internal optimization of database queries.

MS SQL Server 2022

The compatibility mode for MS SQL Server 2022 must be manually enabled.

For custom filters (e.g., search profiles, detailed searches, etc.), runtime behavior may change if Microsoft has changed the internal optimization of database queries.

Windows 10 and Windows 11

The setup of RemoteApps under Windows 10 is not supported.

RemoteApps do not work or only work with significant limitations under Windows 10 and 11. Under Windows 10 and 11, users without administrative rights cannot directly save files to C:\. All settings in STP Documents that result in files being saved directly to C: must therefore be changed.

The version of Windows 10 S, for example, delivered with new Surface tablets or notebooks, is not supported by STP Documents.

Virtualization

VMWare vSphere has been positively tested and is recommended.

Citrix and RemoteApps are not tested by default. For use, a project-specific release through the service is required.

Other virtualization solutions (such as Virtuozzo and Xen) are not recommended. Please discuss a virtualization approach with us on a case-by-case basis.

In general, there are countless configuration options in Microsoft networks and virtualization platforms in various versions.

We therefore recommend not deviating from standard configurations, as unexpected behavior has often occurred here, which was not due to software errors in STP products. Our software uses the standard paths and mechanisms prescribed in the documentation in all areas where Microsoft platforms have provided for this. Our software expects the corresponding rights, write, and read access there.

DATEV

DATEV installs a special MS SQL Server from DATEV.


Note
If DATEV is installed on the server, please check if the SQL database installation can be performed on a different server. If this is not possible, we recommend having a DATEV representative install the SQL Server instance from the DATEV DVD. An MS SQL Server Express from the internet cannot be used with DATEV.


Firewall

Various firewalls - such as the Norton Internet Security firewall - can block data traffic between the individual STP Documents programs and services. Allow all exe files of the Standard DESKs (programs and services in the program directory) and the ports used by the Standard DESK and Outlook DESK in the personal firewall.

Antivirus Scanner

The following directories must be excluded from virus scanning on the server:

  • All directories for database files (*.mdf/*.Idf).

  • The directory for the ContentStore.

  • The directories specified as communication paths for specialized systems.

  • The directory for temporary files.

  • The directory for the preview cache (%ProgramData%\STPAG\LEXolution.DMS\PreviewCache)

The following directories must be excluded from virus scanning on an STP Documents terminal server or workstation:

  • %LocalAppData%\STP.Ecm.Application

  • %LocalAppData%\STP AG\LEXolution.Office

  • %AppData%\STP AG\LEXolution.OFFICE.


Note
If these directories are not excluded from virus scanning, files may be deleted by the antivirus scanner. This can lead to significant issues in document management. STP Informationstechnologie GmbH cannot guarantee the consistency of your data if you do not exclude the above-mentioned directories from virus scanning.
