Quick Guides

This chapter is intended as a checklist for each installation step. For a description of each step, please refer to the corresponding chapters of the installation guide.

Before updating or performing a new installation, please read the technical documentation and release notes for the current version of STP Documents.

Download Area

All downloads for STP Documents are password protected. To update STP Documents, download the following files from the download area of STP Informationstechnologie GmbH:

  • STPCommonServices.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.Server.Setup.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.StandardDesk.Setup.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.OutlookDesk.Setup.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.OfficeIntegration.Setup.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.ClientAppService.Setup.zip

Extract the directories and files to a local directory.

Install/Enable .NET Framework

.NET Framework 4.8 must be installed or enabled on the server. To avoid restarting the computers during the update of STP Documents, the .NET Framework can be installed before the update. If .NET Framework 4.8 is not installed before the update, the computer will restart during the update after the .NET Framework is installed as a prerequisite.

Update STP Common Services

First, update the STP Common Services. If version 1.5.0 or higher and RabbitMQ Server 3.7.3 are already installed, this step can be skipped.

Run the installation file STP.Common.Services.Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator" and follow the instructions of the installation program.


Note
For the installation of Erlang OTP, the Windows environment variable must be Homedrive C:. Enter set homedrive in the command prompt and press the [Enter] key to determine the environment variable.

Cancel the installation if a different value is configured. Start a new command prompt as an administrator, enter Set HOMEDRIVE=C: to change the environment variable for the current session.

Use the cd command to navigate to the installation directory and start the installation file STP.Common.Services.Setup.exe from this command prompt.


Update Server

Then update the server. Run the installation file STP LEXolution.DMS Server Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator" and follow the instructions of the installation program.


Note
For full-text generation to work, the user ServerUser must be assigned to the group All DMS in the central user management (UM). Restart the service for the server afterward.


Update STP.Updater Repository

Remove all files of the previous version from the subdirectories

  • \Patch\LEXolution.DMS Client
  • \Patch\LEXolution.DMS Outlook DESK
  • \Patch\LEXolution.DMS Office Integration
  • \Patch\LEXolution.DMS Client App Service

in the STP.Updater Repository.

Place the current installation files STP LEXolution.DMS Outlook DESK Setup.exe and UpdateManifest.xml in the subdirectory \Update\LEXolution.DMS Outlook DESK in the STP.Updater Repository.

Place the current installation files STP LEXolution.DMS Office Integration Setup.exe and UpdateManifest.xml in the subdirectory \Update\LEXolution.DMS Office Integration in the STP.Updater Repository.

Place the current installation files STP LEXolution.DMS Client App Service Setup.exe and UpdateManifest.xml in the subdirectory \Update\ LEXolution.DMS Client App Service in the STP.Updater Repository.

Update the Standard DESK

Update the Standard DESK.

On a terminal server, switch to installation mode with the command change user /install in a command prompt started as an administrator and run the executable file STP LEXolution.DMS Client Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator". Follow the instructions of the installation program.

Then switch back to execution mode with change user /execute.

[Workstations] can be updated via the STP.Updater Client.


Note
The update of the Office add-ins cannot be completed if the Office application is open. The installation will pause until the issue is resolved.


Update LCAS

For the Client App Service (LCAS), the Outlook DESK, and the Office Integration add-in, the STP User Management must be installed and configured. STP Documents must be switched to STP User Management.

A quick guide to switching STP Documents to STP User Management can be found in this manual (STP User Management).

Install the Client App Service. The setup installs the Client App Service (LCAS), which is essential for the Outlook DESK and the Office Integration add-in. On a terminal server, switch to installation mode with the command change user /install in a command prompt started as an administrator and run the executable file STP LEXolution.DMS Client App Service Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator". Follow the instructions of the installation program. The configuration of the SB connection is done from STP Documents version 7.0. An already configured connection to the Service Bus (SB) for the Outlook DESK will be adopted. Then switch back to execution mode with change user /execute. Workstations can be updated via the STP.Updater Client.

Update Outlook DESK

For the Outlook DESK and the Office Integration add-in, the STP User Management must be installed and configured. STP Documents must be switched to STP User Management.

A quick guide to switching STP Documents to STP User Management can be found in this manual (STP User Management).

Update the Outlook DESK. The setup installs the Client App Service (LCAS) if needed, which is essential for the Outlook DESK and the Office Integration add-in. An already configured connection to the Service Bus (LSB) will be adopted.

On a terminal server, switch to installation mode by entering the command change user /install in a command prompt started as an administrator, and run the executable file STP LEXolution.DMS Outlook DESK Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator". Follow the instructions provided by the installation program.

Afterwards, switch back to execution mode with change user /execute.

Workstations can be updated via the STP.Updater Client.


Note
All users who did not close MS Outlook before the update must log off and log back into Windows after the update. Only then will the new functionality be available in the Office add-ins.


Update Office Integration

For the Outlook DESK and the Office Integration add-in, the STP User Management must be installed and configured. STP Documents must be switched to STP User Management. Windows User Account Control must not be disabled.

A quick guide to switching STP Documents to STP User Management can be found in this manual (STP User Management).

Install the Office Integration add-in. The setup will install the Client App Service (LCAS) if needed, which is essential for the add-in. An already configured connection to the Service Bus (SB) will be retained.

On a terminal server, switch to installation mode by entering the command change user /install in a command prompt started as an administrator, and run the executable file STP LEXolution.DMS Office Integration Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator". Follow the instructions provided by the installation program. Afterwards, switch back to execution mode with change user /execute.

Workstations cannot be updated via the STP.Updater Client.


Note
Close MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook before the update. All users who did not close MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, or MS Outlook before the update must log off and log back into Windows after the update. Only then will the new functionality be available in the Office add-ins. Continuing to work with previous versions of the add-ins may cause issues.

Download Area

All downloads for STP Documents are password protected. The zip file with the delivery databases can only be downloaded by employees of STP Informationstechnologie GmbH. To reinstall STP Documents, download the following files from the download area of STP Informationstechnologie GmbH.

  • STP_UpdaterServerSetup.zip
  • STPCommonServices.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.Server.Setup.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.StandardDesk.Setup.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.OutlookDesk.Setup.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.OfficeIntegration.Setup.zip
  • STP.Documents.OnPremise.ClientAppService.Setup.zip
  • STP Integration Services.zip

Extract the directories and files to a local directory.

The setup of the STP Documents database is carried out by the service of STP Informationstechnologie GmbH.

Delivery Database

The database for managing documents, files, folders, and associated metadata is installed by the service of STP Informationstechnologie GmbH or your consultant. A supported version of MS SQL Server is a mandatory installation requirement. The MS SQL Server is not part of STP Documents.

Install .NET Framework

Install the .NET Framework 4.8 on the server. The .NET Framework is part of the operating system in some Windows versions and therefore cannot be installed. It must be enabled as a feature through Windows program or server management.

To avoid restarting workstations and terminal servers during the installation of STP Documents, the .NET Framework 4.8 can be installed on these computers before reinstallation.

Install STP.Updater Server

Install the STP.Updater Server. Run the executable file STP.UpdaterServer.Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator" and follow the instructions provided by the installation program.

Create the following folders in the product repository for the STP.Updater Server:

  • Update\LEXolution.DMS Outlook DESK
  • Update\LEXolution.DMS Office Integration
  • Update\LEXolution.DMS Client App Service.

Install STP Common Services

Install the STP Common Services. Run the executable file STP.Common.Services.Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator" and follow the instructions provided by the installation program. If version 1.5.0 or higher and RabbitMQ Server 3.7.3 are already installed, this step can be skipped.


Note

Install LEXolution.DMS Server

Install the server. Run the executable file STP LEXolution.DMS Server Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator" and follow the instructions provided by the installation program.

Without a valid license, the STP LEXolution.DMS Server service cannot be started.

Licensing

If you are already using winsolvenz.p4, you must import a new license file in the STP Management Console installed by the winsolvenz.p4 server setup.

If winsolvenz.p4 is not present, start the STP Management Console and follow the program instructions to create a new licensing database.

Then restart the STP Management Console and log in as an administrator. Import the license file. If the import is successful, you can start the service for the server.


Note
The installation of the Office add-ins cannot be completed if the Office application is open. The installation will be paused until the issue is resolved.


Install the Standard DESK

Install the standard DESK on terminal servers and workstations.

Run the executable installation file STP LEXolution.DMS Client Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator" and follow the instructions of the installation program. This will also install the Office add-ins for MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.

Install LCAS

The STP User Management must be installed and configured for the Client App Service (LCAS), the Outlook DESK, and the Office Integration Add-In.

Install the Client App Service (LCAS), which is essential for the Outlook DESK, the Office Integration Add-In, and the standard DESK. On a terminal server, switch to installation mode with the command change user /install in a command prompt started as an administrator, and run the executable file STP LEXolution.DMS Client App Service Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator". Follow the instructions of the installation program.

Then switch back to execution mode with change user /execute.

Workstations can be updated via the STP.Updater Client.

Install Outlook DESK

Install the Outlook Add-In Outlook DESK on terminal servers and workstations. The setup installs the Client App Service (LCAS), which is essential for the Outlook DESK. The configuration of the SB connection is done in the LCAS setup.

Windows User Account Control must not be disabled. Run the executable file STP LEXolution.Office Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator" and follow the instructions of the installation program. This will also install the Outlook Add-In to receive notifications about tasks related to documents archived in STP Documents in MS Outlook.


Note
Close MS Outlook before reinstalling.


Install Office Integration

Install the Office Integration Add-In. The setup installs the Client App Service (LCAS) if needed, which is essential for the Add-In. An already configured connection to the Service Bus (SB) will be retained.

On a terminal server, switch to installation mode with the command change user /install in a command prompt started as an administrator, and run the executable file STP LEXolution.DMS Office Integration Setup.exe with the option "Run as administrator". Follow the instructions of the installation program. Then switch back to execution mode with change user /execute.

Workstations cannot be updated via the STP.Updater Client.


Note
Close MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint before reinstalling. All users who did not close MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, or MS Outlook before reinstalling must log off and log back into Windows after the update.
