The Layout of the User Interface

This chapter describes how to adjust the arrangement of windows in STP Documents.

View

Through the "View" menu item in the main menu, you can show or hide the following windows:

  • "Document Preview"

  • "LEXolution.DMS Import"

  • "Tasks and Notes"

  • "Document Data"

The same applies to the following "Toolbars":

  • "Search"

  • "Application".

Click on the corresponding option to display the window.

Click the Close Button (x) to close a window.

The "Desktop" and "Document List" windows cannot be closed.

Auto-hide Windows

The "Desktop" and "Document List" windows can be pinned or hidden using the Button (Auto-hide Window) or Button (Pin Window) icons in the main window.

If a window is configured with "Auto-hide," a tab with the window name will appear at the edge of the STP Documents window. Click outside the window to hide it. Click the tab to restore the window. If the window is configured with "Pin Window," it will always be displayed.

Position Windows

Windows in STP Documents can be positioned using drag-and-drop.

The "Desktop" and "Document List" windows can only be positioned at the outer edge of the STP Documents window.

The following windows can be freely positioned or arranged on tabs:

  • "Document Preview"

  • "LEXolution.DMS Import"

  • "Tasks and Notes"

  • "Document Data"

Layout

Through the "Window" menu item in the main menu, you can save, delete, and retrieve saved layouts.

Position Windows at the Outer Edge of the STP Documents Window

  • Click and hold the left mouse button on the top bar of the window.

  • Drag the window over another window while holding the mouse button.

Symbols will appear at the outer edges of the STP Documents window in the other window.

  • Now drag the window to the corresponding symbol.

If you haven't released the mouse button yet, you'll see a colored transparent area on your screen showing a preview of the window's position. If you don't like the future position of the window, simply drag it to another symbol.

  • Now release the mouse button.

Window Next to Window

  • Click and hold the left mouse button on the top bar of the window.

  • Hold the mouse button and drag the window to any other window.

  • Drag the window to the corresponding symbol to arrange it to the left, top, right, or below the desired window.

If you haven't released the mouse button yet, you'll see a colored transparent area on your screen showing a preview of the window's position. If you don't like the future position of the window, simply drag it to another symbol.

  • Now release the mouse button.

Tabs

  • Click and hold the left mouse button on the top bar of the window.

  • Hold the mouse button and drag the window to any other window.

  • Drag the window to the symbol in the middle.

If you haven't released the mouse button yet, you'll see a colored transparent area on your screen showing a preview of the window's position. If you don't like the future position of the window, simply drag it to another symbol.

  • Now release the mouse button.

Position Document List at the Bottom Across the Full Window Width

You want the "Desktop" window on the left, the "Document Data," "Document Preview," "Tasks and Notes," and "LEXolution.DMS Import" windows as tabs on the right, and the document list across the full window width at the bottom. Follow these steps:

  • Move the "Desktop" window so that it is displayed as a window.

  • Position the "Document List" window below the window with the tabs.

  • Position the "Desktop" window to the left of the window with the tabs.

Auto-hide Windows

The "Desktop" and "Document List" windows can be automatically hidden.

Click the left mouse button on the Button (Auto-hide Window) to display it as a tab at the outer edge.

Hover the mouse pointer over the corresponding tab at the outer edge to display the window (no click is necessary).

Move the mouse pointer outside the window to hide it again.

To pin the window back in the STP Documents window, click the Button (Pin Window).

Save Layout

  • Click in the main menu on "Window" > "Save Layout…"

  • Enter the desired name in the input field for the new layout name and select the Save Button.

You can also save the current layout as a system layout.

The system layout will then be available to all users. To create a system layout, select "Window" > "Save System Layout…"

You must be logged in as a user with the associated role of system administrator or specialist administrator to save system layouts.

Use Saved Layout

  • Click in the main menu on "Window" > "My Layouts" or "Window" > "System Layouts".

  • Select the desired layout from the submenu.

Delete Layout

A deleted layout cannot be directly restored.

Preset system layouts can only be deleted if you are logged in as a system or specialist administrator.

  • Click in the main menu on "Window" > "Delete Layout…" or "Window" > "Delete System Layout…"

  • Select the layout to be deleted by activating the checkbox with the left mouse button.

  • Click the Delete Button.

  • Close the window.

Layout Recommendation

For a comfortable and clear layout of the STP Documents windows, we recommend using a second monitor. Flat screens that can rotate from landscape to portrait mode (pivot function) are best suited for this. You can display the document preview on the second monitor, for example. This way, you can read the documents in their original size and have more space for other windows on the first screen.
