Topics assign files and folders through the property file type or folder type metadata (file data or folder data) for tagging in STP Documents. In a topic, you also define which additional metadata (document data and email data) is available for tagging documents within a file or folder in STP Documents. You can also assign metadata to documents that are not associated with files or folders. Depending on the subject area, you can specify different metadata for different topics.
With the topic designer, you can
- Create modified topics
- Derive custom topics from templates
- Edit existing topics, add or remove fields
- Import topics
- Export topics
- Create and edit selection lists for input fields.

When a new topic is created, a new DLL is generated on the server, classes are created, and a new database table is generated.
To use new or modified topics in STP Documents, the server as well as the standard DESK and Outlook with the installed Outlook DESK must be restarted.
