What Are Content Blocks?
Content Blocks are reusable text blocks that you can insert into your Word documents. They contain standardized legal or business content that can be reused across multiple documents.
Insert Existing Content Blocks
Step 1: Open Content Blocks
- On the tools page, click on Insert content blocks
- You'll see a list of all available content blocks
Step 2: Find Your Content Block
- Browse the list of available content blocks
- Use the search box to find specific content blocks quickly (searches by title or description)
Step 3: View Content Block Details
- Click the menu button (three dots) next to any content block
- Select Details to view more information about the content block
Step 4: Insert Content Block
- Put the Cursor in the desired location or highlight the text you want to replace
- Click on any content block in the list
- The content block will be inserted at the cursor position and replace the highlighted text
Create a New Content Block from Selection
Step 1: Select the Content in Word
- In your document, select the text you want to save as a reusable block
Step 2: Open the Save Menu
- Click the caret icon (dropdown arrow) next to the Save button in the header
- From the dropdown menu, select Save selection
2. Alternatively, select Save document to save the entire document as a content block
Step 3: Configure the Content Block
- Ensure Content Block is selected as the save type:
- For Save selection: Content Block is automatically selected
- For Save document: You need to manually select Content Block (Template is the default)
- You can modify the Name and Description as needed
- The form will be pre-filled with a suggested name:
- For Save selection: Based on the first sentence of your selected text
- For Save document: Based on the current document name
Step 4: Save the Content Block
- Once fully configured, click the Save button below the form to create your content block
Requirements and Limitations
- Selection must not be empty
- Selection must not include any content control like Smart Fields
- Selection must be editable at the chosen location
