Connecting Amberlo

đŸ§Ș Beta — The Amberlo connection is in beta. It’s fully usable, but we’re still refining it, so you may encounter the occasional rough edge. We’d love your feedback.

Legal TwinÂź - Case Knowledge can work directly with the matters and documents you keep in Amberlo. This article guides you through connecting your Amberlo account to Legal TwinÂź - Case Knowledge.

How the connection works

There are two ways to connect Amberlo:

  1. Through your STP account — you sign in and authorize the connection via your STP account.
  2. With an Access Key and Secret — you generate a key pair in Amberlo and enter it into Legal Twin¼.

⚠ Important: The STP account method does not work yet. For now, please use the Access Key & Secret method described below. We are working on enabling the STP account option.

Once connected, you choose which of your Amberlo portfolios should be added as connections.

Opening the “Add data connection” dialog

  1. Open the Settings in Legal TwinÂź. You reach them via the gear icon at the bottom left of the Legal TwinÂź interface.

  2. In the “Datenverbindungen” (Data connections) section, click the “Verbinden” (Connect) button. This opens the “Datenverbindung hinzufĂŒgen” (Add data connection) dialog. If no system is connected yet, this dialog opens automatically.

  3. Select the Amberlo option. The dialog now shows the two authentication methods — “STP-Konto” (STP account) and “Access Key & Secret”.

  4. Switch to the “Access Key & Secret” tab (the “STP-Konto” tab is selected by default, but that method does not work yet).

Generating an Access Key and Secret in Amberlo

You create the Access Key and Secret in Amberlo’s API documentation (Swagger UI). You must already be logged in to Amberlo for this page to be accessible.

  1. While logged in to Amberlo, open the API documentation at https://app.amberlo.io/login/docs/index.html

  2. Find the CurrentUser section and expand the POST endpoint with the path current/secrets.

  3. Click “Try it out” and then “Execute”.

  4. The API response now contains an accessKey and a secretKey. Keep this response open — you’ll copy both values into Legal Twin¼ in the next step.

Note: Treat the Secret like a password — anyone with the Access Key and Secret can access your Amberlo data. Don’t share it.

  1. Back in the “Datenverbindung hinzufĂŒgen” dialog, with the “Access Key & Secret” tab selected, enter the values from Amberlo:
    • Paste the accessKey from the API response into the “Access Key” field.
    • Paste the secretKey into the “Secret” field.
  2. Click “HinzufĂŒgen” (Add). Legal TwinÂź validates the credentials and loads the portfolios your key can access.

Selecting portfolios

What happens next depends on how many Amberlo portfolios your key can access:

  • A single portfolio — the connection is added automatically and the dialog closes. You’re done.

  • Multiple portfolios — you choose which ones to add. All accessible portfolios are selected by default; clear any you don’t want. Portfolios that are already connected are marked with a “Verbunden” (Connected) badge and can’t be selected again. Click “HinzufĂŒgen” (Add) to add the selected portfolios and close the dialog.

Each portfolio you add appears as its own connection in the “Datenverbindungen” section of the settings.

Start using Case Knowledge

That’s it — your Amberlo account is now connected. You can browse your cases and open or download their documents straight away. In our article Analyze Your First Case we walk you through the analysis of your first case and show you the core features of Legal Twin¼ - Case Knowledge.

Change connections

You can return to the settings at any time. To add further Amberlo portfolios, open the dialog again and select Amberlo — because you’re already authenticated, you go straight to the portfolio selection. To remove a connection, use the “Entfernen” (Remove) button next to it in the “Datenverbindungen” section.
