Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Legal Twin in Amberlo

Legal Twin® - Case Knowledge currently supports the following file formats:

  • PDF
  • DOC, DOCX (also DOCM, DOT, DOTM, DOTX)
  • TXT (also TEXT)
  • RTF
  • ODT
  • XLSX (also XLSM, XLTX, XLTM)
  • PPTX (also PPTM, POTX, POTM, PPSX, PPSM)
  • E-mails: EML, MSG — together with their attachments in one of these formats (plain-text attachments sent as text included) and forwarded e-mails up to three levels deep. Encrypted e-mails cannot be analysed and are shown as failed; an encrypted attachment of an otherwise readable e-mail is skipped with a note in the text.

Not supported are the legacy binary Office formats (XLS, PPT, PPS, POT), password-protected Office documents and PDFs (shown as failed), and scanned PDFs without a text layer (they are analysed, but there is no text to read: Legal Twin® - Case Knowledge does not perform OCR). Very large documents are read up to about 5 million characters (roughly 1,500 pages) and within a fixed time; the text then ends with a note saying that it was cut off.

How are pages counted for documents without pages?

An Excel workbook counts one page per worksheet (hidden worksheets included; chart sheets do not count), a PowerPoint presentation one page per slide (hidden slides included), and a text file one page. An e-mail counts one page plus the pages of its attachments: an e-mail with a three-page Word document attached counts as four pages. Attachments that cannot be analysed, such as images, do not count.
